Easy Old-Fashioned Biscuits

All the memories of Sunday morning without all the unhealthy ingredients. These biscuits are a wonderful, bready treat! Great with vegan eggs or hash browns


Units Scale
  • 1 1/4 cup of plant milk
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of vinegar
  • 1 packet of yeast
  • 1 tablespoon of maple syrup
  • 3 cups of flour (white whole wheat works best for rising but you can use oat or a combo, but the oat definitely doesn’t rise as high)
  • 1/4 cup of unsweetened apple sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of salt


  1. Preheat oven to 475, cover a baking sheet with parchment paper
  2. In a small bowl, mix together plant milk and vinegar and set aside for 10 minutes
  3. After 10 minutes mix in the yeast and maple syrup, give it a gentle stir
  4. In a large bowl sift together the flour and salt (yes, you need to sift the flour)
  5. Add the applesauce in with a fork
  6. Mix wet ingredients into the flour mixture, stirring gently until it all comes together
  7. Flour up a surface and knead the dough on it about 15 times. You can add a tiny bit of flour if it gets too sticky
  8. Roll out the dough ½ inch thick and use a medium biscuit cutter to form small circles
  9. Bake for 9-10 minutes but keep an eye on them as ovens vary


If you are using all oat flour, roll out the dough 1 inch high as they won’t rise much
